In addition we are thrilled to be able to promote local stories and heroes. Our In Your Community newscast are broadcast live from various locations in the city. As well, Global News produces local half hour documentaries, including the half century celebration of the Manitoba Theatre Centre, MTC: 50 Years of Staging Imagination. Global News was also recognized as a leader in local news programming, for our live broadcast of the memorial service at MTS Centre for two Winnipeg fire fighters who were killed battling a devastating house fire in St. Boniface. United By Courage received a Silver Remi Award from the Houston International Film Festival for Best Local Television Programming. Our Global Sports’ Coach of the Month feature continues to pay tribute to the countless coaches in every sport throughout Manitoba.
When Global News reporters and anchors aren't covering the stories that affect and reflect our community, they're helping out the many worthy causes and charitable agencies supported by countless Winnipeggers and Manitobans. Global's Mike Brown hosted the Second Annual TJ Wiebe Foundation Dinner and produced a video shown at the fundraising gala. Global's Peter Chura and Eva Kovacs also hosted the Volunteer Association Awards and are proud supporters of Folklorama.
